Three brothers on the Central Mission: Salford City Reporter article 23rd March 1918: MILITARY MEDAL The Military Medal has been awarded to 6442 Lance sergeant (Sergeant) A. Walker (Manchester Regiment) of Salford. Salford City Reporter article 20th April 1918: THE BROTHERS WALKER The sympathy of readers will go out to Mr. and Mrs. Walker, of 56, My-street, Salford, in having lost three sons in the war. On August 16, 1916, Private Harold Walker (18), King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment was killed in action in France, and on May 3, 1917, Second-Lieutenant J. E. Walker, 23 years of age, was reported wounded and missing afterwards presumed killed. The third brother, Sergeant Albert Walker, Manchester Regiment (‘Pals’), Military Medallist, wounded four times previously, died from wounds received in the recent fighting on April 10. Sergeant Walker was 22 years of age, and was employed by Messrs. Tootal Broadhurst, Lee and Co., Oxford-road, Manchester before joining the Forces in September, 1914. WALKER, Albert. Sergeant 6442, A Company, 16th Battalion, The Manchester Regiment. MM CWGC: Monday, 8th April 1918, age 22. Buried Mount Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, Seine-Maritime, France. Plot VI, Row G, Grave 25. Son of Edward and Elizabeth Ann Walker, of Salford. SDGW: Born and resided Salford. Enlisted Manchester. Died of Wounds. WALKER, Harold. Private 3150, 2nd/7th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, attached 8th Battalion, The King’s Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment). CWGC: Wednesday, 16th August 1916, age 18. Commemorated Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Son of Edward and E.A. Walker, of 56, My Street, Eccles New road, Salford. SDGW: Enlisted Salford. Killed in action. SDGW states he served in the 1st/7th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, which is incorrect as they were in the Middle East at that time so the CWGC is correct regarding him being in the 2nd/7th.
