M.C. Award 2nd Lt. Manfred Cohen, B.E. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of a party carrying signal stores forward. His party came under very heavy fire, but he rallied his men and got the stores to their destination, making two journeys through an enemy barrage. He then established and maintained communication with very few men, working with untiring energy under heavy fire. During the withdrawal which followed he rallied parties of men, and helped to organise the new line. He showed great determination and contempt of danger, which were an example to all ranks.

Due to shapnel from the terrible battle of Passchendaele, Manfred Cohen died suddenly on January 27th,1928 in Pretoria,South Africa, leaving a wife and only child,Ray. In 1899 he left England to fight in the Boer War,and afterwards decided to remain there. His MC medal, for some reason has never been in his possession. Any assistance in its retrieval would be greatly appreciated by the family of the late Ray Cohen. Morton Cohen, killed in action at the age of twenty at the Battle of Gallipoly, Turkey, was my grandfather's youngest brother. His remains,it appears were never found. My dear mother lived to the ripe age of 90,dying a few years ago at the end of 2011 and all her long life, lovingly remembered Morton Cohen, the uncle, who never returned home to his family. There is a sanctity in remembering our ancestors.

Ramat23, Welcome to the forum and thank you for adding additional information for Manfred and Morton. It is such sad news that Manfred's medals whereabouts remains a mystery. The image below shows that Manfred served with the Royal Engineers and South African Field Telephone and Postal Corps. Both men are remembered. ![[poppy]](//storage.proboards.com/3217397/images/hFjK8RVaSDlJJcB7vPMC.gif)
