We have recently received an email from a Mr Turnbull who is Head of Collections at the Museum of Transport, he has kindly sent the following information:

Don't worry about it. The museum staff were fantastic and even spent an hour polishing a Manchester Memorial before we took pictures. Debs has taken some wonderful pictures and may post them when she gets some time.

A Lieutenant wrote to say that he had last seen Alfred safe and well in the German lines, but in 1917 the Red Cross confirmed that Alfred's was one of the 14 bodies identified in November when the Regiment revisited the scene of the 1st of July fighting
