There are 3 Brownes on the memorial but I have a suspicion that two of them are the same man. Liked to be proven wrong though.

3060 james taylor[known as jim] 8th rifle brigade enlisted 1-9-14 aged 20 occupation, labourer 7 irwell terrace, salford mother, margaret killed in action,30-7-15 on 3-10-15,the officer commanding the 1st royal fusiliers reported that his men had found+buried jim,and sent his ID disc to his mother, she wrote and asked for a picture of his grave, the location of his grave is unknown, probably lost in the heavy fighting at ypres Thanks, Mack I am honouring him today, the centenary, as he was my Grandma's (Sarah Jane Taylor) beloved oldest brother and she was devastated by his loss. I did a google search for 7 Irwell Terrace, the address on the front of the Blackpool Herald, 19th Oct 1917! The family kept it because Sarah Jane's (Janie) fiancé wrote a letter that is reprinted in it! He talks in detail of the trenches, which he survived, as he became my Grandpa! Here is Janie's treasured photo of her lost brother, Jim.

Not successful in photo attachment of great uncle Jim Taylor who is on the Salford Cathedral War memorial as the file was too big.

RMN James Taylor
Thanks Ben, Not sure who William was, but I think he may have been James' brother. He had a number of brothers. It's many years since I did genealogy research and I don't have access to my notes at the moment. I think James' father was also James though and he died in his 30s. Margaret may have already been a widow when she lost her eldest son. Eaglei

I have just had a closer look and all those addresses on Irwell Terrace, Salford appear to be occupied by servicemen. It makes you realise the sheer scale of it!

Welcome eaglei,
Many thanks for posting the picture of James. Would you mind if we send this on to a gentleman who is researching Catholic fallen soldiers of the First World War?

Welcome eaglei, Many thanks for posting the picture of James. Would you mind if we send this on to a gentleman who is researching Catholic fallen soldiers of the First World War? Garry Yes, I'd be happy for you to send the picture on, but would be very grateful for any info in return. I do know a bit about the Taylor family; my own research and stories from my Nana. I have been searching on the cwgc website but whatever I have entered it can't find James and comes up with 545 names of taylors who aren't all called james. Last night I paid for his war medal card which says K.I.A. but not much else. Theatre of war (1)France. Qualifying date 20.5.15. and I don't know what all the codes mean. Can anyone interpret please? How do I get more info? Can I use the page nos. given? I also seem to have been sent 3 freebies - details of other james Taylor's with different corps and reg. numbers!
Of course this is all based on the reg. no. from Mack, so hope it's accurate. Where did you get all that info about his Id tag sent to his mother etc. from Mack?
