Whilst Charles's wounding sounds quite horrific it appears that he carried on serving until the end of the war. He was discharged "class z" on the 24/01/1919.

I cannot find any mention of either of the men in the indexes for the Salford Reporter, Eccles Journal and Manchester Evening News.
I will try and find some extra information on Thomas over the weekend.

Hi just looking again and Thomas is actually Charless nephew , and is actually the grandson of Thomas Pawsey the landlord of the Star Inn on Greengate, commonly known for years later as Pawseys.

Julia,
How did you make that connection? All the documents I have seen show Thomas as the son of Thomas and Maria.

Hi I'm just smiling to myself about the Passey / Pawsey records . This is what us Pawseys are up against and what started this thread in the first place Pawsey is such a difficult name. Thank you for all your help. I am sure now that the Thomas Pawsey on the Greengate memorial is Thomas Pawsey the landlord .

Hi , I'm sorry I'm getting confused , you are correct. The Thomas from the Greengate memorial is the son of Thomas and Maria. The Thomas in the Chapel street WW2 memorial is the son of the Greengate memorial Thomas if that makes any sense. It's all so confusing !!
