Managed to call and get some shots of the memorials at the Monton Church this morning. I noticed a blue plaque telling of John Henry Poynting, the man who weighed the earth J H Poynting. On the WW1 memorial is a Arthur Poynting, can someone with access to Ancestry/FMP see if Arthur was a son/grandson of J H Poynting? Thanks in advance. Garry

I'll try to have look tonight when I get home. The webbook's ok for keeping an eye on things, but not ideal screen size for ancestry / findmypast searches.

Looks like he was the son b.1883 Kings Norton, died 25th July 1916, France or Belgium , he would be remembered on the Monton one, because of his father I would Imagine

Private Ewart Sadler is buried in Monton Unitarian Church churchyard. According to the CWGC website his grave ref. no. is 638 and I suspect it will be a family plot. He died on new year’s day 1917 and was serving with the Manchester Regiment. His is one of the 74 names on the Old Salfordians’ Memorial Plaque which has recently been re-erected in the University of Salford’s Peel Building on the Crescent. Can some kind soul photograph or transcribe the gravestone for the Old Salfordians’ Association? We are researching the 74, at least six of whom are buried locally.
