Hi all, This medal is on ebay, a buy now for £49. It is not Salford, but I thought it may be of interest to somebody/collector. I will not be bidding for it. I have sent Debs the link, but here is a taster; British War Medal, 1914-1920, attributed, Manchester Regiment (later Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers), medal forfeited in 1921, restored in 1935 Private Robert Magill served with the Manchester Regiment and later with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (90097 and 43897). He was also entitled to the 1914-1915 Star (France, qualifying date 16 March 1915) and the Inter-Allied Victory Medal. He was subject to disciplinary proceedings on 5 April 1921 (Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers 90097) under King’s Rules and Regulations, paragraph 392 xi (misconduct) and his Star and medals were forfeited, being returned to Preston on 1 July 1921. Cannot say what I think about the for "forfeit" of this medal, cos am not allowed to swear!!.. but am Liz

Hi Debs, Yeah, ebay has lots of iffy medals, they are not my "thing", mostly because they are usually expensive!!. This seller says his medals are genuine, and probably are, but you know how trusting we Salfuds are!!. I learnt something though, didnt know these WW1 medals could be forfeited, thats terrible, certainly since they were hard to earn, am wondering if the same applied to Haig?, or any of the high rankers who were not shot at dawn for desertion but hospitalised for stress?. Actually, theres a question; What was the highest rank shot for desertion?...anyone know?.

A second lieutenant and a sub-lieutenant were the highest ranking soldiers listed in the recent list of 306 shot at dawn soldiers who were granted posthumous pardons, as announced in August 2006.
