Thank you for the work you have done to honour the men who died in the Great War. I was touched to see that you had used the newspaper report about my uncle James Jackson Hughes the centenary of whose death is next Wednesday. I will be driving up to Eccles on 30 May to take part in a quarter peal on the bells of the parish church, the nearest church with bells to Monton where my grandparents lived and where Jackson’s name appears on the war memorial. I still have a cousin living in the area and I’m proud to be able to honour my uncle in this way. I am also very grateful to the bell ringers for their help in arranging the quarter peal. I hope we are successful.g
