Hi, I know this is a few steps on from WW1, but I'm trying to trace any descendants of Harold Washington, who was in the Duke Of Wellington's in Ireland in 1920. He was killed that September, aged 15, during an IRA ambush in Dublin along with two other young British soldiers: Thomas Humphries (19), of 140 Coates St, West Bowling, Bradford and Marshall Whitehead (20) of Hope Street, Halifax. Washington's address was 189 Regent Road, Salford. His father, George, was a shoemaker and his mother's name was Harriet (nee Whatmough). They also lost two other sons during WW1. One of the IRA attackers, Kevin Barry, was aged 18, arrested and hanged for his part in the ambush. That aspect took on great significance at the time and since, but it was a lost part of the story that the three British casualties were so young. The point of this research is to try and join the two parts of the story together again. Obviously finding relatives of the dead is extremely difficult at this remove, but any suggestions that might help me find out more about the Duke of Wellington's Regiment in Ireland in that period, and those who served, would be greatly appreciated!
