Hi, I am nearing completion of visiting all the lads who were shot at dawn during World War 1 - I have visited all the graves and memorials in France and Belgium bar 6- 2 in Rouen , 2 in Le Havre and 2 in Paris . i am looking for any information regarding Privaye John Talor 15/Lancashire Fusiliers who was executed on 27/01/1917. Any information will be much appreciated. I have used the standard books of reference on the subject And am hoping one of your group will have more information
Regards dave

Hi & welcome Dave I have a feeling that this John Taylor was a Manchester lad & not Salford? Although i think he lived in Hulme Manchester. C.W.G.C. linkAfter shooting this poor chap the authorities of the time had the audacity to make his wife a war gratuity Click here for link to John Taylor's willThere is a £10 charge is required by law for the release of public documents. Medal card index show he had a middle initial of "A". John Taylor married Gertrude Boyde Rothwell 1912 Manchester. So i think the "A" stood for Alfred as they had a child born 1912 named John Alfred Taylor. plus a daughter named Gertrude in 1915 After John 's death, Gertrude Boyde Taylor nee Rothwell went on to marry George Owen Lamb 1919 who was a soldier
