Hi, I am new to this forum and have spotted a mention of my Dads uncle in Frank Thompsons' war diary,he was killed at Gallipoli on the 03/08/1915. Does anyone have any more information regarding him or what his regiment were doing at the time. yours sincerely.
His was Pte 2804 Robert Stear 1st 6th Battalion Manchester Regiment.

Hi Phil, Welcome to the forum. Robert's medal card shows that he arrived in the Dardanelles on the 23/7/1915, he was entitled to the 1915 Star, the Victory and British War medals. The Manchesters website shows that the 1/6th landed at Gallipoli on the 6/4/15 (link) which differs from the date given on Robert's card. You may get an explanation for this difference if you post on the superb Manchester Regiment forum. The UK Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects shows that the army paid monies to his mother Emma, brothers Tom and Alfred, and sister Florence. I can tell you that there was a small article printed about Robert's death in the Manchester Evening News on the 30th August 1915. I will see if I can find anything further.

Entry from the 1/6th war diary shows that they received a new draft on the 23rd July 1915. No mention of any deaths on the 03/08/1915. Please do post on the Manchester Regiment Forum as they are far more knowledgeable than I.
