Having just googled my great grandfather's name, I was amazed to discover a link from someone called shred(?) to somebody selling my grandfather's medals on Ebay in 2011. His name was Reuben Greenberg and he was in the King's Liverpool Regiment. Would anybody know where these medals might have gone?

Hi Julia, Shred is one of our administrators - he's on holiday at the moment. Unfortunately it will be difficult to find the medals as they will most likely have been purchased by a medal collector or less likely by another family member. I don't think there are many medal collectors on the forum so it is very unlikely to have been purchased by one of our members. Perhaps an enquiry to Ebay might help you trace the buyer?
Best of luck with your searching - I, like many others, have been frustrated so far in my hunt for a family member's medals (but haven't given up hope).
Best regards Pete

Thank you for the information. I'll try to contact Ebay but I don't hold out much hope! They'll no doubt want to preserve privacy. If I do get any luck I'll let you know. X

Julia, there are other forums that might help:
- the British Medal Forum - The Great War Forum.
It's a long shot but if you post on these forums there is a chance that the owner of the medals is a member of one of these and gets in touch (even if it takes a long time). If you do post I suggest you include your grandfather's service number as well as his full name and regiment. Again, there's a possibility that the owner searches the internet for info about your grandfather and comes across your post. They would probably use the service number in the search.
I hope this all makes sense. Best of luck.
Pete

I know it s an old thread but no harm in up dating. There is "medals reunited" on Facebook. Don't know if the lady got anywhere with eBay. When you mention money, this can help. The last buyer is more likely to sell if making a profit. No point in saying " these belong to my family
