Sorry to hear you have lost someone close to you.
And thank you for continuing this research.
I'm in shock a little bit and have more questions. I'm going to look at the writing on the back of the photos again.

The photo has the following written on the back 'delia southcombe, born? Tipperary Ireland' and 'george t? rossell', 'my mother, died june 1915'. 'Dorset street. salford'. So this sounds like the same lady. Was his name given as Russell on the marriage certificate then.
Where were the Royal scot Fusiliers based? If registrations for mary j rossells birth was in july aug sept. I don't understand why on the back of the photo says she died in june, is this a mistake? One question that bothers me is why did Mary get brought up with someone else and were they a relation? Grandpa was a very proud, honest family man and he lead a good life. Its disheartening in one respect to learn that his dad was discharged and convicted but heartening to know he was determined to represent his country. I guess I need to look at the censuses back from their wedding?

Could the year written on the post card be 1917? It would seem that Mary has shortened her second name to Delia, so could this be her death? First name(s) MARY D Last name ROSSELL Gender Female Birth day - Birth month - Birth year 1883 Age 34 Death quarter 3 Death year 1917 District SALFORD County Lancashire Volume Page 138 Country England Ordering the birth and death certificates may help answer a lot of your questions?

I just want to thank you again on behalf of my dad, my uncle and my brother. They have been amazed with what you have found out and we're currently trying to find my grandpa's birth certificate. After correcting people with the spelling, as well as the pronunciation of Rossell all our lives this has proved quite humorous in one respect. We are also wondering what family may be there from george russell such as james h russell etc. Anyway, thank you for your time and effort with this very interesting family history.

I have been waiting for my uncle to drop off 2 suitcases which I hope has my grandpa's birth certificate in. I have been researching George Russell and Mary bedelia Southcomb using 'find my past' with censuses etc. I have spent hours on there as there are so many george russells and i was trying to find one with james on it as well. I am amazed with how quickly you found out the information about our family and think i have found out more. I have tried to put a photo up of them but can't. I have put them on livesof ww1 if anyone wants to see them but he has no cap on. Thank you again for the 'lost' information. It really is very much appreciated.

Thank you for putting the photo up. On the wedding information, am i correct in saying 'garside street, oredge? I am struggling to find a census to track and confirm george russell and his family... on his wife's side I think my greatgrandmother's family also enlisted. Their family name, I think, is Bishop as she is om 1911 census as mary Delia Russsell -Head: George & Delia Bishop. My great great grandfather, George Bishop possibly is the same as as g bishop, service number 705041 east Lancashire regiment,2nd batallion. Also his son, George Russell's brother-in-law, William Henry Bishop. He possibly is the same person as one who enlisted in Manchester, private 5188 of the 12th batallion.

Hi gr8,
The address of Garside St, Bridge St, Manchester is given for James, George's brother.
I am struggling to understand (I may just be being a bit thick) why Mary gave the maiden name of Southcomb when she married - the fact that a Bishop witnessed the wedding would support the fact that her maiden name should have been Bishop. Had she been married before?

Hiya. V confusing. Not sure why -but can't find a marriage here for southcomb so I'm presuming in Ireland, if at all. My grandpa was born may 6th 1912 & they were married in 1907 So doesn't make sense why she would put this on a birth certificate. Both my dad and uncle remember the name bishop being mentioned. With 6 or 7 bishop siblings in the area grandpa must have had a lot of family around him (when he came back to Salford ) but I guess he didn't even know.
