There will be a WW1 commemoration event on Prince's Park on Saturday, 2nd August, between 2pm and 5pm (at the ampitheatre near the old river). There will be exhibits, songs, etc. Neil and I will have a display of local memorabilia such as medals, plaques, documents, photos, battlefield debris, etc. We will also be providing free guided tours of the Irlam and Cadishead war memorial.
Hopefully we'll see a few forum members there.
Regards Pete

I see the press have been at it again, publishing without checking their facts. The Manchester Evening News and Salfordonline carried a story about a Facebook posting about Irlam doing nothing to commemorate WW1. The SWARM Facebook site has leapt to a similar conclusion. Please don't believe all you read in the press otherwise Manchester United will be starting the season with Ronaldo, Vidal, Toure, Hummels, etc.
As can be seen from the above and some more pictures that I'll post below, Irlam held a fine WW1 commemoration on Saturday.
I can also safely say that Irlam and Cadishead's contribution to both wars is as well documented as any in the UK.
What the guys did on Monday was wonderful and I'm full of admiration for them (in case you're wondering where I was I'm out of the country).

Hi Pete, id seen both the M.E.N. & the face book remarks and just laughed as i knew the people of Irlam, Cadishead & Salford would do there part in the memory of those who gave so much from the area. Don't let it get to you as i know S.W.A.R.M. where the facts are published and not on the Jeremy Kyle show of the internet aka F.B.
Great work and well appreciated.

Pete,
As you have already stated we know that Irlam and Cadishead had held a very appropriate event to commemorate the District's great and proud roll during the First World War.
I will speak to you further about this when you return.
Have a great break.
Garry
