Fallen men of Eccles Harold Potter born Eccles L/Corporal Royal Scots Died 23/5/18 CWG Boulogne Eastern Cemetery Son of Jane Potter of 174 Barton Lane Eccles From Manchester Scottish L/Corporal Harold Potter died of wounds on 23/5/18. Three days earlier the Battalion had been subjected to a gas bombardment near Oblinghem. He enlisted on 6/10/14 and went to France with the 15th Battalion . In March 1916 he was one of a party of 20 men who were out repairing wire at night. German starlight went up and they came under machine gun fire. Sixteen of the party were killed or injured. L/Cpl Potter spent about 6 months in hospital in Norwich with wounds to both legs. He returned to France in January 1918, he was admitted to hospital on 21st of May, suffering from the effects of gas and burns, he died 2 days later. He worked in the linen department of Barlow &Jones Portland St Manchester. Wendy
