J H O'Brien John Henry Aged 38 was the son of John Henry and Bridget. He lived at 8 Hatherton St , Cleminson St ,his wife Mary Ellen later moved to Tomlinson Buildings George St.

John Benjamin Spilling Aged 29 died 2nd July. His wife Elsie Annie lived at 38 Ayr St Regent Rd.
L/Cpl Harry Fritz Mugridge Died on 6th July aged 30. He was born in Guilford Surrey
L/Cpl James Grant Died on 21st July aged 32 after his leg was amputated in No 1 Canadian Hospital. He was born n Chorlton on Medlock, he lived with his wife and 4 children at 3 Wellington Row, Whit Lane. He worked for J Martin & Sons of Bury New Rd

L/Cpl Joseph Appleyard Was a patient at No 4 General Hospital
Arnold Barlow Was in Mill Rd Military Hospital Liverpool with wounds to his face and body. He had been a medal winning cricketer.
Richard Hodgkinson Barrow Was wounded in the hand and suffered shellshock. He lived at 1a Gardner St Pendleton and worked as a collector for The Pendleton Provident Dispensary.
L/Cpl J Beaver Was wounded while attending to Captain Lee Wood . In August he was in Corbett Hospital Stourbridge. He worked for Fidlers & Sons ,Barker St Strangeways, his father lived at 55 Lord St Cheetham.
William Owen Brennan Suffered from shrapnel wounds in his right leg and was later in Beaufort War Hospital Fishponds Bristol. He lived at 36 Hill St Seedley and worked for James Woolley & Sons Victoria Bridge.
James Brierley Was in Graylingwell War hospital Chichester . He lived at 47 Shawcross St.
Arthur Broadley Aged 34 was wounded in the right leg and suffered from the effects of gas. In July 1916 he was in Ranmoor Military Hospital Sheffield. He lived at 17 Globe St and worked at Teds hairdresser shop Tatton St.
CSM A E Brown Was wounded in the foot and ankle and lay partly buried for 2 days and 2 nights, only getting back to his lines at 3am on Monday morning .He was later at a convalescent home in Blackpool . He lived at Sussex St Lower Broughton.

J Burling Aged 38 lived at 20 Lyndhurst St Seedley , and worked as a pattern card maker in Manchester. H e was wounded for the 4th time at Hooge in 1918.
A/Sgt Robert Collins Ha a shrapnel wound in the back and was a patient in 110th Field ambulance . He late served as A/Sgt in Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
Thomas Conway He lived at 35 Frederick St, he later served in Labour Corp.
L/Sgt W Dawson Was severely wounded and later had his right arm amputated. He was discharged 17/3/17 and became the first secretary of the Salford Brigade Old Comrades.
Wilfred Evans Was at No 10 General Hospital Rouen . He lived at 362 Barlow Rd Levenshulme.
L/Cpl L Fairburn Was in Norfolk War Hospital Norwich . His parents lived at 21 Rockley St Pendleton , he had been a member of The Salford Fire Brigade.
John Edward Fitzgerald Was wounded in the side and in hospital at Epsom. He was with Captain Heald at the Germans 1st trench when he was hit. He was aged 34 and lived at 127 Woodbine St .

Thomas Fulham Had a gunshot wound in his hand and was in hospital in Rouen. He lived with his parents at 6 Buxton St Seedley and worked for the makers up and packers William Delany &Co at their Portland St warehouse.
William Griffin Aged 24 was in hospital in Scotland. He lived at 18 Walter St Hightown and worked at Kershaws dyeworks Liverpool St.
Leonard Grimes Was sent to St Georges hospital Hyde Park Corner London. He lived at 14 Arthur St Seedley.
W Hall Was in Lord Derby Hospital Winwick. He lived at 19 Rossall St Pendleton.
Louis Hindley Was in Queen Marys Hospital Whalley with shellshock. He lived at 19 Cookson St Ancoats.
William Hodson Was wounded in the left arm. He died on 24th of August. He lived in Davies St.
James Holden Was wounded in the left arm by shrapnel. He was killed in action 25/8/16 aged 19. He was born in Hulme , the only son of William and Annie. They later lived at 36 Peter St Higher Broughton.
W Hudson Was invalided home and discharged in July 1917. He lived at 21 Beech St Lower Broughton.
Harry Humphries Was in the General hospital Dudley. He lived at 7 Peter St Hightown.
G Hutton Suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and leg, and ws in Lake Hospital A-U-L.
James Isherwood Aged 19, was wounded in the head, neck and hand and was in East Leeds Hospital. He was born in Pendleton and lived at 96 Rossall St , attended St Thomas's church and was employed at Mandlebergs rubber works. He was killed in action on 2/12/17.
Richard Jennings Aged 18 , was wounded in the ankle and was in Southern General Hospital Birmingham. He was born in Pendleton and lived with his sister at 36 Chaney St , he attended St Thomas's church and worked for Groves and Whitnall Brewery . He was killed in action on 25/4/18 whilst serving with 2/5th LF.
Alfred Jones Was born in Serpukhov near Moscow , went to school in Petrograd and later attended Grecian Street Higher Grade School. His parents lived at 23 Penelope Rd I-O-H.

Frederick Jones Was in Ford Military Hospital Devonport. He lived at 71 Melbourne St.
Sgt Joseph Lawless Aged 40 , had 2 bullet wounds in his left hand and shrapnel wounds in his back and both legs. He was in Evington Hospital Leicester . He lived with his wife and 5 children at 25 Regent St and worked at the Manchester Guardian Offices.
Thomas Leonard Had shrapnel and gunshot wounds to his back, and slight injuries to his knees.
Wilfred Lever Suffered a shrapnel wound to his right wrist. Transferred to 1/5th LNLR he was wounded again, gunshot to left hand on 13/11/16 and sent to hospital in Cardiff. Later L/Cpl and died of wounds 3/10/18. He had attended Trafford Rd School and lived at 27 Coral St Ardwick.
Robert Lord Was the son of Herbert Lord of 24 Regent Square and worked for Mr F Hill of Salford. He was later killed in action on 7/8/17 aged 21 whilst with 11th LF.
William Mason Was wounded in the head and died in Netley Hospital on 21/7/16 aged 24. He lived at 94 Bridgewater St Farnworth.
William Moreton Aged 31 , was wounded in the thigh and was in Beaufort Hospital Bristol. He was married and lived at 9 Marple St Pendleton and worked at Knowles Age croft Colliery.
Sgt J Nelson Was in the Northumberland War Hospital. He lived at 17 Nashville St.
William Henry Preston Aged 32 was in Langley Hospital Prestwich . He returned to France , became L/Cpl and was demobilised in 1919. He lived at 17 Kershaw St and worked for the Union Cold Storage Company in Miller St Manchester.
Samuel Rawlinson Was in Hospital in Elgin, and had his right arm amputated , and was also wounded in the left leg and shoulder. He lived at 27 Thompson St Lower Broughton and worked for Mr Megson printer of Oxford St Manchester.
W Reynolds Was in the Welsh Metropolitan Hospital Whitchurch . He worked at CWS Sun Flour Mill Trafford Park.
John Roberts Was in General Hospital Etaples , suffering from shell shock. His father Sgt Roberts of The Salford Police Force lived at 34 Camp St Broughton . John had been an apprentice a W Senior &sons , motor engineers Pendleton.

William Robinson Was wounded in the nose , thigh and ankle . He was the only son of Mr and Mrs Robinson of 82 West Clowes St ,Broadway. . He attended Trafford d Council School . He worked at Richard Howarths mills ,Ordsall Lane.
George Seers Was in Edmonton Hospital, his home address was West High St, before that he was listed at 110 Hodgson St Pendleton.
Albert Joseph Stanley Was wounded in the head by shrapnel as he reached the first line of the German Trenches. He was in hospital in Frodsham. He lived with his wife and 2 children at 31 Hodge Lane and had worked for Groves & Whitnall brewers for 26 years.
L/Cpl William Taylor Aged 32 was discharged on 13/8/16. He wrote to the Salford reporter from his home at 46 Dawson St Pendleton. " I got hit over the heart with machine gun fire and crawled to a shell hole where I lay for over 8 hours with a B company bomber . I was hit in the thigh, back and arm with flying shrapnel as I lay in the hole, and my comrade had both his arms either broken or shattered, I can't say which as I never saw him again after leaving the first aid ststion.
Sgt Harry Turner Had shrapnel wounds in his back and was in Military Hospital Knotty Ash. Salford born , he lived with his wife on Eccles New Rd . He was a fireman at the Corporation Cleansing Department.
J Underwood Was in Bournemouth hospital and was discharged 11/8/17
Alfred Walsh Was in Ford Military Devonport. He had been unconscious for 2 days came to on the 3rd and decided to try and crawl back that night, but passed out again, and did not waken until the 4th day. After crawling for about 3 hours .I came to a sunken road, but it was to dangerous to crawl in daylight, so I got in a shell hole until dusk, when I got almost to the top of the road, I was halted by 2 chaps from York and Lancasters who helped me back. He was born and enlisted In Manchester and lived at 36 Whitley St Rochdale Rd. He was later killed in action on 18/4/17.

William Willetts He had got only 3 yards over the parapet when he was wounded. Three hours later Captain Armitage dressed his leg and finger , which was later amputated. He was in his early forties and a bricklayer by trade. He came home to his wife and 2 children at 3 David St Pendleon, still suffering from shell shock and loss of hearing in ne ear.
Thomas Robert Woodlings Was in Beaufort Hospital Bristol. He lived at 4 Cliff Avenue Lower Broughton, he later served with the 2nd Battalion.
The following men are known to have been taken prisoner on 1st July
John Carter Was in Ohrdruf Thüringen. His wife and 4 children were at 17 Bird St Pendleton , and later at 18 Barker St Salford. He had worked for F Reddaway & Co rubber manufacturers and was a amember of the Broadway Brotherhood.
Joseph Siddons Aged 21 was also in Ohrdruf POW Camp. His home was at 94 Swinton Hall Rd Swinton, and he had been a miner at Clifton Hall Colliery. Josephs right leg was amputated in Germany and after he was repatriated in 1918 he underwent another operation in Stretford.
E J Casey Was also being held at Ohdruf Pow camp.
William Jacobs Aged 19 was in Minden POW camp Westphalia. His parents lived at 16 Gledhill St Trafford Rd, and he worked for Southern Oil Company Trafford Park.
J Smiley Aged 23 was reported to be a prisoner in St Quentin. His family lived at 37 Dalton St Ordsall, and he worked for the Great Northern Railway.

He had a free scholarship at Manchester School of Arts and was a design apprentice at the Guild of Printers.
