NatWest, Monton Rd, Monton. "ALAN FISHER Rank: Sergeant Trade: Pilot Service No: 1128865 Date of Death: 15/08/1942 Age: 20 Alan was flying in Spitfire P8380 "Black Velvet" when it flew into the ground due to bad visibility/weather at Cymmer (near Port Talbot), Wales." Alan was a former pupil of Salford Grammar School, whose WW2 memorial unfortunately had no names on it and whose pupil records were destroyed in a fire. Enough has survived, however, for me to know he left in 1938 as a School Prefect with his School Certificate. He originally went into librarianship but then switched to banking, only for the war to intervene. His parents included his "school chums" among those they thanked for their flowers and expressions of sympathy. I've been in touch with the present owners of the farm he crashed onto, but they told me they had not known about accident until I contacted them, and there was nothing they could think of that might suggest where the site was.
