Albert Lunn Gunner Royal Artillery 959192 died 12/2/44 CWG Column 5 East Africa Memorial  Husband of Marjorie Joan Lunn of Higher Broughton Salford . Age 25 Albert was an old boy of Salford Grammar School, and went down with the SS 'Khedive Ismael', a troop carrier, in the Indian Ocean. 1,220 men & 77 women lost their lives, making it the largest ever loss of servicewomen in the history of the Commonwealth of Nations. 208 men and 6 women were rescued. It was the third largest loss of life for Allied shipping in WW2. Old Salfordian |
