I wonder what the context is behind the memorial plaque? The 1st/8th LFs were badly mauled in the 1940 retreat to Dunkirk but this memorial only lists the men who were killed in the Far East in 1944 (mainly from the battles of Kohima and Imphal). The men came from far and wide so it isn't a 'local' Salford memorial.
Regards Pete

Pete, I would surmise that it is to remember the men who fought in that particular campaign. We sent a copy of the picture across to the Lancashire Fusilier link, they suggest that the memorial "probably used to hang in the drill hall at Cross Lane salford, the home of the 8th Bn." Thanks Garry
