St Philips Manchester Regiment WW1 J Barlow James Henry born St Stephens Salford 17th battalion 8389 died 15/3/16 CWG F.18 Suzanne Communal Cemetery Age 32 son of Horatio Collinge and Margaret Barlow 1911 born 1885 ,8 Hope St Salford , occupation Iron foundy labourer A Beatty Arthur Harry Wolsley Beatty 2nd Lieutenant 19th battalion died 31/7/17 CWG Panel 53 to 55 Ypres Menin Gate Memorial Age 29 son of Joseph Bensley Higginson Beatty and Isabella Marcia Beatty nee Lamb of 24 Gayton Rd Harrow on the Hill Only A Beatty I could find, dont know the connection A Bennett Arthur Edward born Denver Colorado USA enlisted Manchester 17th battalion 8392 died 1/7/16 CWG Pier and Face 13A and 14C Thiepval Memorial 1911 81 Peru St Salford , shippers clerk R Carr Richard born St Pauls Salford 18th battalion 9832 died 6/3/16 CWG Plot 1 Row D Grave 1 Corbie Communal Cemetery Age 28 son of Richard and Mary Ann Carr of Pendleton , husband of Ethel Carr of 7 Milnthorpe St Salford Wendy Lance Corporal Arthur Edward Bennett 8392 had been born in Denver, Colorado. As part of the 17th Battalion Machine Gun Section, Arthur had been promoted Lance Corporal. He was killed in action on 1st July 1916, aged 21. Arthur’s family lived at 2 Mount Pleasant Square, Salford. It is possible Private Arthur Bell’s recollection is mistaken in relation to the survival of the cheeky American who had called out at the pretty mother as they were marching through Manchester “I wish I was that goldurned dawg.” . No other American born men have been identified in the Platoon. T

J Bond James Lanc/Fus 1792 1/7th battalion died June 1915 , aged 41 ,hewas killed in action and his name is on the Helles Memorial . He was born in Salford and lived with his wife and two children at 9 Ducie Place , Liverpool St . He worked for Mnachester Corporation Cleansing Department and before that served with the 1st Manchesters during the South Africa War. He was wounded at the battle of Elandslaagte and was present at the relief of Ladysmith.

pte 22420513 eddie mcgibbon,he was badly injured when the truck he was travelling in,overturned,he died of a brain haemorrage shortly after,he was only 19yrs old buried in western rd christian cemetery,penang,malaya gary. theres a photo of his grave on our forum if you want one mack Where is the photo ? and do you have any more info on this soldier ?; i think he may well be my uncle ,i only need to link to him to my Great Nan so i may have more info for the site.

the a.beatty on the memorial is probably pte 48731 andrew beattie,son of william+margaret,11 kershaw st,salford,he was reported missing at arras and assumed to have been killed in action on 25th april 1917 with the 12th manchesters,aged 20,previously served at gallipoli as pte 2810 a.beattie,1/7th manchesters
