Stephen Begley's father was also a casualty of the Great War - now awaiting commemoration. Any help finding his grave would be appreciated. This is what Mack & I have compiled:- Col Sgt 3414 John Begley Colour Sgt Begley may be the second eldest Manchester Regiment casualty of the Great War, born 25 January 1852. John enlisted on 3Octtober 1914 and served at Home with 3rd Bttn. He had previously retired as Colour Sgt 2153, from the Inniskilling Fusiliers, after 20 years’ service. John was discharged Sick with SWB on 5/7/1916. John died at his home on 17 January 1918 with Valvular Disease of the Heart (VDH) and Lipoma / Syncope, aggravated by Active Service. The DC states age 66, although it appears he died eight days prior to this birthday. John’s widow Elizabeth Begley received a pension at 138 Oldfield Rd, Salford. The couple had 15 children. Their son Stephen was killed on 20 December 1914, serving with 1st Battalion. Stephen is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
