Sergeant Howard Charles Fearneley, 16th Lancashire Fusiliers, died form wounds on October 3, in the 58th Casualty Clearing Station. He was the son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Frank Fearneley, of 10, New Herbert-street, the Height. He was 27 years of age, and was educated at Stowell Memorial School, Salford, and Lower Moseley-street, Manchester. He joined the Forces three years ago and had been in France 12 months. Before joining the Colours he was a clerk on the Manchester Exchange for Messrs. Coppock, Stanley, and Ellis, Manchester.


1911 census - Howard is a clerk living at 1 Weaste Lane, Pendleton with his mother Elizabeth and sister Dorothy. He was born in Cadishead.
