It would appear that Wilbraham's medals have been through an auction house at some point in the past. Interestingly the medals are inscribed with his Manchester Regiment number (301901). Link

hi i am sorry if i am posting in the wrong place, but i understand you are trying to stop the build of a asda on burial ground (war memorial) site. and totally back your cause but was wondering is it because wilberham blears is buried there or others too is he of special significance ?? the reason i am asking is because i was doing a search on the name blears and came across this. blears is an unusual name so i am told, and not widely used as a surname. But my mothers maiden name was blears and came from atherton. atherton not many miles from salford. polly

Hi Polly. SWARM is not opposed to the Asda development itself, but we are supporting the call to preserve the graveyard because of the military memorials which were there, including the grave of Private Blears.
It would be nice if the former churchyard could be incorporated in the plans and restored to a proper and fitting place for respect and remembrance for the Swintonians interred there.
There is a separate thread about the burial ground here on the forums which details the other WWI and WWII servicemen who, although not interred here, were remembered on family memorials.

I was wondering if one of the Admins would be happy to talk to BBC Radio Manchester about Private Blears. It would be very interesting to learn more about him. If so please contact me on 0161 XXX XXXX. Many thanks.
[EDIT: Telephone number blanked.]

Great photos Gary, what happened to all the others who were exhumed ? When & where were they buried? Did they get the same dignified funeral?
