A visitor at the SLHL brought my attention to the following article which informs us that Joseph Brookland Morris of the Manchester Regiment enlisted at the age of 16. Joseph was wounded on the first day of the Battle of the Somme and later discharged due to those wounds. On his 19th birthday, the 21st December 1916, he received both his call-up and discharge papers. Attachments:

Birth: Name: Joseph Brookland Morris Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1898 Registration district: Northwich Inferred County: Cheshire Volume: 8a Page: 287 (click to see others on page) His service record shows that he did enlist in 1914, he gave his age as 19 years and 11 months. Attachments:
