Private 306035 John Hallam, 1/8th Lancashire Fusiliers, of 161 Hodge Lane, Seedley had served in the Dardanelles and Egypt before he was taken prisoner on April 5TH 1918 when the Germans made an attack on Bucquoy. John teamed up with Private Michael Dempsey of the Royal Marine Light Infantry to escape the prisoner of war camp at Marchiennes on the 27th April 1918. I have done a little research on John after finding the following article in the Salford Reporter. Attachments:

The interview in my last post took place on the 4th May 1918. Using Google maps shows the distance from where John was captured at Bucquoy to where he was held at Marchiennes, link to google maps. John Hallam's medal card shows that he disembarked in the Balkens on the 22nd of Octoberr 1915 and he had been originally given the service number 3400. John was disembodied on the 23rd of February 1919 and was entitled to receive the 1915 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. Attachments:
