Possible WWI pension record on Ancestry. Closest match found. Father's name and wife's name are similar, though not exactly the same, and the age is close:
Name: James Edward Martin Estimated Birth Year: abt 1889 Age at enlistment: 25 Birth Parish: Trinity Birth County: Lancashire Document Year: 1914 Regimental Number: 11539 Regiment Name: Salford Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers Number of images: 4

Jim;
I had seen that record. Unfortunately it doesn't belong to the James pictured above.
He married Catherine (Gordon) in 1908 can you find him on the 1911 census? I was told that he suffered after being gassed. As he served in WW2 his record may have been removed from the archives and used to record his second stint in the forces.

James Martin's grandson (forum member Ned) has had James' CWGC headstone at Weaste Cemetery professionally cleaned, he has also had the name of Thomas Martin, who was killed in action on the 21st May 1940, added to the family stone. Looks like they have done a grand job.

Thank you Garry for uploading the Photograph of my grandfathers grave. I have requested his, and Thomas war records from the MOD. It could take up to a year for them to be processed. The information about his was service from my late mother is that he was gassed in the first WW. He subsequently ended up in the second WW where he caught Pneumonia whilst serving in France. My mother said he was sent home from France on the back of an open truck and taken to Hope hospital where he died. I have a feeling that in-between the two WWs my grandfather was in the territorials.
