I am trying to research Herbert Barratt who is named on the St Andrew's Church memorial and I am totally confused. I have the following from the National Roll of Honours. But I cannot find a H Barrett who died in November 1916 whilst serving with the Lancashire Fusiliers. Attachments:

The name on the memorial defiantly reads "Herbert Barratt"
The only Herbert Barratt I can find who matches on CWGC is: Name: BARRATT, HERBERT Initials: H Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment/Service: Lancashire Fusiliers Unit Text: 1st Bn. Age: 36 Date of Death: 11/04/1918 Service No: 30947 Additional information: Son of George Barratt, of 70, Barton Lane, Eccles, Manchester; husband of G. Barratt. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 4. Memorial: PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL
Which gives the same address as printed in the National Roll.

I have also found a record for a Herbert Barr"E"tt joining the Manchester Regiment living at the same address with the same father. Can anyone get their head round this? Attachments:

the incorrect year is usually the fault of the compilers and also the spelling of surnames, there are a lot of errors in the national roll, most were by the people themselves

hiya gary. theres more to this puzzle, herbert enlisted on 15-9-14 as pte 2524 herbert barrett,5th manchesters,70 barton lane, eccles, occupation greengrocer he was discharged on 6-7-15 because he had epilepsy, the medical officer stated that he had frequent attacks and became very violent,he was dangerous to himself and other people, the officers and men from his battalion, had witnessed several of his fits, and said that he attacks anyone near him. his epilepsy originated on 30-11-1906 when he was fighting with another boy in the reform school,he hit his head on a desk after being knocked down. in 1918 he was 36yrs old, which means he would have been in his early 20s in 1906,to old for reform school theres no way this man could have re-enlisted,he wouldnt have made it past the MO,also the herbert barrett who was killed, wasnt entitled to a 1915 star

Mack,
I have found exactly the same as you have posted.... ages, dates, medal entitlement do not match and I am yet to find the soldier who died in November 1916 (I understand that information gleaned from the Roll of Honour are to be treated with caution). I will make a note to look at the Eccles newspapers next time I visit the local library.

hiya gary. pte 30947 herbert barratts service number was issued around late 1915 early 1916,so he couldnt have served in france in august 1915[national roll]the herbert barratt who was discharged with epilepsy, was discharged from the 2/5th manchesters, they were stationed at southport+crowborough, the national roll says he was killed in november 1916 during the somme offensive, but the h.barratt on the CWGC was killed in belgium, the only thing that connects h.barratt in the national roll with the man killed in 1918,is the place of residence, its possible that herbert barratt was one of his older brothers, who used his name to enlist because he was over the age limit.
