Malcolm,
Do any of the pictures hace a date on the back? Do they have any photograph studio address on the back?
Was Harry called Harry or was he named Henry?
Sorry about all the questions.
Garry

Garry Thanks for the responce. The originals are at my brothers house (all the 'tree' stuff is kept there) i don't think there was a date 'cos we would have jumped in the air at that! The one of Dad and Harry was taken at Le Tourneux's studio on Regent road. Dad was born in 1900--------Harry a couple of years before (i think). It couldn't have been taken after March 1918 cos of the RFC connection and not as early as 1914 cos dad don't look like a schoolboy.

Their parents were Joseph and Frances Pilling. Dunno if Dad knew mum this early...she was born in '07, they married in 1927. While I'm here -----dad didn't take part in ww2 cos of he was in engineering, but i know I've seen the words 'Hosepipe inspector' somewhere.......he may have been involved with the fire brigade.
Dad was born in Dawson street--------dunno if he left home before he married.

On the assumption he would have been too young to join up, he would have been going in right at the end of the war, could he have lied about his age, making his birth date late 1890's

I have just been through the Absent Voters List for Ordsall and surrounding areas. Sorry to say "no luck".
I acn only find two Pillings John Alfred Pilling registered at 68 Tatton St and William Pilling at 5 Blackburn Buildings. There is no mention of either in the Salford/Manchester Roll of Honour. I can't find any medal index card (see thread on Salford Forum). I am thinking that Frank may have joined up just as the war was coming to an end.
Not much help, will keep looking.
