Hello
It was great to see the news story and photo about Pte Oliver Carr(my great grandfather). I already knew quite a lot about his war record but hadn't seen the newspaper item before. I know that his name is also on the colliers' memorial in Pendlebury.
OLIVER CARR
Rank:Private
Service No:7021
Date of Death:07/06/1917
Regiment/Service:Royal Irish Regiment 2nd Bn.
Grave Reference: I. D. 2.
Cemetery:WYTSCHAETE MILITARY CEMETERY
What is the source of the news story? I couldn't see that anywhere. Is the line down the middle of the photo present on the original (microfiche?).
Anyone have any other info about Oliver, it would be welcome.
Thanks
Shaun

Hi Shaun, Thank you for joining the forum and taking the time to post a message. The newspaper article was found in the Eccles and Patricroft Journal, published on the 13/07/1917. Yes the image was taken from a microfilm that is available at the Salford Local History Library. If you call them they may be able to get you a clearer image as I know that they have invested in a microfilm scanner that can clean up images. Oliver is also remembered on the St Mary's Church memorial salfordwarmemorials.proboards.com/thread/2088/st-marys-church-swintonHere is another image of Oliver taken from the Eccles and Patricroft Journal Roll of Honour I will see if I can find anything further.

As an ex member of the Royal Irish Regiment , it is always sad to read the details of a soldier killed in action who wore the same capbadge as me. The next time I'm at St Marys I will place a poppy on the Roll of Honour in memory

my mistake. I visited St Marys Prestwich. Anyway, I left a poppy and lit a candle for the other lads remembered at this church
