Hello,
This is just a quick note to say thank you to all the people contributing to this site and project. I have found some invaluable family history knowledge from this site around my great-granddad John Walsh (who served in Salonika in the Manchester Regiment) and two other relatives John (Manchester Regiment) and Frederick Metcalfe (Rifle Brigade) who were both killed in France. We were alerted to the existence of the grave relating to John and Frederick in Wardley Cemetery by this site which we have since visited. This is something we would have simply not known about otherwise so thank you for all your hardwork in preserving the memories of those who fought and died.
As a final aside I noticed when browsing the site that forum contributor Wendy's granddad is David Allcock. My great-granddad is Clement Allcock who was David's brother. Looks like we may be distant relations.
Thanks again.

Hello Salfordwalsh,
Thank you for taking the time to post and for your kind words.
I have noticed that there were articles published in the Salford Reporter with regards to John and Frederick's deaths. I will try and get a copy of the articles and will post here on Wednesday evening.

Hello Shred Thanks for your response. I have actually seen those two articles in the Reporter as I reviewed the excellent spreadsheet someone pulled together on your website listing the names of the soldiers mentioned. I went to Central Library over Christmas and got the edition relating to John as we knew he had served and died. I didn't know about his brother Frederick but his death was mentioned in John's obituary so I then requested the edition in which he was referenced. I then stumbled across the picture of their parent's grave in Wardley Cemetery on this site and managed to locate it in the cemetery from the picture on this site. Unfortunately the obituary for Frederick is quite limited, just a notice from his parents expressing grief. I've managed to dig out what I can from ancestry and other sources about John and Frederick but I have hit a bit of a brick wall now. I will post what I have gleaned over the next week or so and then hopefully someone might be able to give me a steer into where to look next.
