HELP NEEDED, with this soldier, Date of Death:31/08/1916 Age:18 Lancashire Fusiliers Depot Grave Reference: D. C.E. 684 (Screen Wall). MANCHESTER (PHILIPS PARK) CEMETERY Son of Thomas and Mary Ellen Ball, of 42 Lostock St Oldham Rd Miles Platting Manchester Enlisted in 1914. why was this soldier buried in a shared paupers grave. ? when he could and should have had a CWGC HEADSTONE AND BURIAL ?, Recent research of Alfred Ball’s Medal Index Card Alfred’s card states that he joined the theater of war on the 23rd November 1915, in France. The card also says that he was entitled to all three war medals. The ‘remarks’ section reveals that Alfred ‘died of wounds’ on the 31st August 1916. I have reported this to the CWGC in the hope of finding out why he's in a paupers grave
