In recognition of the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, I just thought I'd like to add my grandfather to the roll. He was enlisted on 3rd May 1915 at the age of 16 years 10 months (although he declared his age as 19years 10 months at the time) and joined the 3rd Salford Pals. He was transferred to France 21st November 1915 and was involved in the Battle of the Somme, getting wounded on 1st July 1916. Transferred to the UK on 7th July 1916 and remained in the UK (Prees Heath) until the end of the war. He went on to get married, had three children and lived on until 1982. He often talked to me about his experiences and enjoyed showing me his wound...! Attachments:

maxidog,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for taking the time to post these fantastic pictures. I like the side by side images, your grandfathers features didn't change greatly with age.
Was his service number 21021?
