Hello I'm researching my family history. I came across your forum with someone questioning the reporting of the death of Elijah Daniels 15680 KORLR. Elijah Daniels was my great uncle. This forum has led me to believe I may have extended family also researching the same man. My hope is that I can identify and correspond/ share information on the Daniels family living in Salford

Hello again, please forgive me, I'm a novice using forums. Below is the message I found on a different forum, I think written by shred on 1914-1918.invisionzone.com written in 2010. Could you offer any advice in locating this person?
Hi,
Trying to understand why upon Elijah's death his second-lieutenant of his Battalion writes the folowing:
"After the gallant and dashing charge of the Manchesters on March 2, your husband, Private Daniels, failed to answer the roll call and he was listed as missing, and as he failed day after day to put in an appearance he has now been reported as killed"
Why Manchesters? Is this a reporting error or was the 8th battalion known thus?
Thanks for any help.
Regards,
Garry

My name is Drew Daniels. I think it was garry who asked the question about Elijah Daniels, as copied in previous post. Are you the Garry that posted the original message? Because you were inquiring about Elijah Daniels I thought you might be a relative?

Drew,
Sorry for misreading your post, trying to multi-task.
Yes I am Garry. I am not related to Elijah, just researching one of our Salford heroes. I asked the question as I was intrigued as to why the Second-Lieutenant of the KORLR would refer to his battalion as the "Manchesters".

Thank you for the explanation. Elijah Daniels was my father's uncle. My father was a Normandy Veteran going on to serve for 30 years. After visiting the Menin Gate Memorial with my father I promised him that if I ever had a son I would name him after Elijah Daniels. I lost my father the day after my son Elijah was born. I feel it is vitally important that my son knows about his great great uncle and him coming from a large Salford family I hope to find distant relatives. "We will remember them" Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.
Regards
Drew

Drew,
What a touching narrative. Thank you for sharing.
I am sure your son will be so proud of his name when he is old enough to appreciate his namesake's sacrifice.

Hello again Garry Thank you for your kind words. I'm looking for any help I can get. I hope you don't think I'm being cheeky but I feel I have to ask. Would you be able to offer any advice on how to go about finding out where Elijah was killed? what area? part of the line? Which battle? So many questions I know but any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I really don't know where to start.
Kind regards
Drew

Drew, I have just been reviewing my records and have noticed that Elijah is named on the Regent Square Memorial. And the St Ignatius Church memorial. Some years ago I published the following information on the Regent Square website I am trying to remember where I found the information with regards to his enlistment date? This may have been published in a local newspaper, I will check when I next visit the local library.
