Dear Friends
I am Stephen Davismoon, Professor of Music at the University of Salford.
I thought that I would just let this community know that over the last 2 years I have been working on a commission from the BBC Philharmonic to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. My work, which I've nearly finished - entitled 'God's Own Caught in No Man's Land' - is dedicated to the fallen of the Somme, but takes as its focus the tragic circumstances of the Salford Pals.
The concert, featuring the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, will feature works by 3 UK composers that served on the Somme: George Butterworth, Cecil Coles and Ivor Gurney alongside the world premiere of my aural memorial. It will be recorded by the BBC for broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The concert will be at Maxwell Hall, University of Salford on 1st July (when else) at 7.30pm.
The event will be ticketed, but entry is free, though we intend to take services-related charitable donations during the concert.
If anybody is interested to attend, please message me here, tickets aren't available just yet, but should be by the end of April
All best wishes
Steve
