Hi
I am involved in a WW1 memorial project in my town of Arlesey in Bedfordshire. We have had quite a bit of publicity after our documentary "Arlesey Remembers" was shown on the community channel and one of our group was asked to speak at the launch of the British Legion WW1 memorial campaign.
One of our Arlesey fallen, Corpl James Saunderson, appears to have enlisted with the 15th Btn of the Lancashire Fusiliers and was KIA on July 1st 1916.
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me find out what he was doing in Salford! There are a lots of local (Bedfordshire) newspaper reports of his many run-ins with our local Police between 1903-1906, he was listed as being in Arlesey in the 1901 census but I can find nothing else about him! A thread on this group mentioned he was living at 8 Paradise Hill, Greengate and was working for a firm in Heaton Park.
If anyone can help find out any further information I would be extremely grateful! Our aim is to have biographies written for all 87 of the Arlesey men commemorated on our memorial by 11/11/2018. Corpl Saunderson is listed on our memorials as well as Salfords Greengate memorial

Hello Sam, We don't have a lot of information on James. I have checked the indexes for the local papers without success. There is a brief mention of him in the Manchester Evening News on the 11/01/17 (sorry, but I do not have access at the moment). I will check The Lancashire Fusiliers: The roll of honour of the Salford Brigade 15th, 16th, 19th, 20th and 21st Lancashire Fusiliers" by Montague Barlow, if James' first battalion was the 15th LF there is a good chance that the book will have a picture showing him with his company. Read more: salfordwarmemorials.proboards.com/thread/1971/lancashire-fusiliers-salford-brigade-montague#ixzz3yCOB0alAI am presuming that you have all the information from his medal card? James is also remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Sacred Trinity Church link
