The connection between Parkin, Salford and Hayfield do it for me.
Serendipity is a wonderful thing. ;D

Yes---but as i said----by pure chance it seems i got another (albeit extended) family member. If i hadn't seen the GG Parkin on the memorial i wouldn't have found the other one on the CWGC site. ;D

hiya guys. you will always get a soldier like j.parkin on all memorials, they drive you mad trying to ID them,i dont think pte john, henry parkin is your man. pte john, henry parkin served with the 3rd manchesters as part of the humber garrison,he died in the military hospital at brighowgate, grimsby,at the time of his death,he was living with his wife daisy,at 3 new barton st,irlam o th heights, his will was published on 30-4-17,leaving £155 to daisy john, henry never served overseas,so theres no medal card, and his records havent survived.
you guys mentioned a pte john parkin whos widow was living in oldham after the war,you may be right about him being your man, there was no j.parkin of the coldstream guards mentioned in the oldham newspapers during the war.
also on the memorial is g.matts,he didnt serve overseas,so theres no medal card, and his records havent survived, george matts died in salford in 1919.
