Hi Broomy. In 1908, a Fanny Chamberlain married a James Duckworth at St. Phillips Church in Salford. In the 1911 census they were living at 11 Bernard Street Salford, with a 6-year old girl named Mary Ann Chamberlain listed as Daughter. James' occupation listed as Pedlar, sand and stone. Fanny originally from Derbyshire, James and Mary Ann both born Salford. In the Oct-Dec of 1918 at Hayfield in Derbyshire, a 'Fancy' Duckworth is listed on the BMD Index as marrying a Samuel G Parkins. This is about 6 months after she was widowed I think. The Duckworth page of the BMD index is very poor - the typescript has spread and I think it more likely looking at it that is reads Fanny, and has been mis-transcribed as Fancy. Similarly, the Parkins page is as bad, and the middle G could actually be a C (Samuel Charles, if I remember correctly). Hope this is of some help.

Mary Ann was my mum---born in Garden Lane in Salford. Fanny and James were her parents, I knew nothing of him until i saw his name on the Weaste memorial. I now know he married Fanny (mum was born in 1904) and died in Blandford in 1918, Fanny then Married Sam and had 2 daughters (mums half sisters)...the eldest one (Ethel) was, allegedly, born in the 'lock up' in Hayfield, the younger one (Lilian) was born in Salford. Fanny died in 1925 and Sam remarried as quickly as she did when James died. Martha Copeland became his next wife and, in the March quarter of 1926, my 'uncle' Norman was born. Auntie Ethel is the matriarch of my family and is, at the moment, in Hope hospital recovering from a broken hip she sustained 4 days before i met you all. I just want to know where James and Sam are now-----especially James. I am thinking of selling this story to Jeremy Kyle

James (Duckworth) will most likely be buried somewhere in the Blandford area, as that is where he died. It is possible, but unlikely, they would have paid to transport his body further afield. Similarly, Sam will most likely be buried (or possibly cremated) in the area where he died. Have you any ideas about where he lived after he remarried to Martha Copeland?

I can possibly find out tomorrow off my cousin Alan (Sams grandson). Norman was registered in Manchester North.
Wouldn't the cost of bringing James back from Blandford have been met by the RAF?
