I just found this interesting material on a Lonsdale Btn site re. the defence of the Leipzig Redoubt or Hindenburg Stellung and Granatloch as the Germans called it on July 1, 1916. This is the fortification slightly south of Thiepval that was assaulted by several formations, including part of 14 Brigade of 32 Division on the first day if the Somme. In this attack were 2 companies of the 3rd Salford Pals (19th LF). Thought it might be of interest. Colin www.freewebs.com/granatloch/spike18.html

After looking about more thoroughly I realize this is one if the best and most comprehensive Pals sites on the net. Good resource on the fight for the Leipzig Redoubt from both sides' perspective.
