Hi all.
I have only recently found out that my Great Great Uncle is on this memorial.

Hi grafjacks, Welcome to the forum. There will definitely be an article about Daniel in the 1916 Eccles Journal as his picture appeared in the Eccles Journal Roll of Honour. I will try and find the article when I visit the library next Wednesday. I will also try and provide a better picture than the one attached in this post.

His name (third down) on the Clifton memorial. His name appears twice on the 1911 census once with his family in Clifon, and another entry shows that he is in India with the 1st Manchesters. Daniel joined the Army on the 19th of October 1903, there are 50 pages of his service record available to view.

That's fantastic!
Can't wait to tell my mam. How can we view his records?
Everyone will be so chuffed with this info.
My cousin, Steve Jacks, visiting from Australia, stopped at the memorial yesterday on his way back to the airport and took a pic of Daniel's inscription.
Thank you so much for the photo, it's good to put a face to the name.
Any further info will be gratefully received.

PS from Gareth's Mum; Daniel Jacks was my Great Uncle of whom I knew nothing until recently. I feel very proud of him and very sad not to have met him. He had no children to remember him but I feel I know him now. Thank you very much for this information; it is wonderful work that you do. We should never forget what such brave men did for us. Barbara Carr (nee Jacks).

Thank you. We wish we could do more. I have noted that the article states that he attended St Anne's Church in Clifton, a church which we have yet to visit. Daniel may be remembered on this memorial also. I shall try and pay a visit in the next couple of weeks.

Thank you very much for your efforts. The Jacks' are now spread across Scotland, England, France and Australia and the pictures you have posted have been duely dispatched to them! Next time I visit my sisters in Rochdale, I'll be sure to look Daniel up myself. Again, We are eternally grateful. If it wasn't for people like yourself, our past would be long forgotten, as would the efforts of those lived and died in these troubled times to ensure we are able to live as we do today :-)
