Good evening I am on the trail of 4 Manchester brothers who served in WW1. James Thomas Chadwick 29661 11Bn Lancs Fus. KIA 21/10/16. Married St James Higher Broughton on 27/11/1915. Lived at 371 Great Cheetham Street.
Robert Chadwick 20630 2nd Royal Scots. KIA 10/5/16.
Sgt. Joseph Chadwick & Edward Chadwick both survived the War.
Does anyone know on which war memorial James & Robert are listed?
Any information gratefully received.

Hello Shane I don't know if you have this info from Manchester Scottish ,Manchester contingent of 15th Battalion Royal Scots.
Robert Chadwick 20630 B Company 2nd Royal Scots , killed in action near St Eloi 10/5/16 aged 26. Lieutenant Malcolm wrote to his widow Ethel Goulding Chadwick , to say that he had been killed along with Lt Lockhart and another man by the explosion of an aerial torpedo. In 1916 Mrs Chadwick was living with their child at 12 Kempster St ,Lower Broughton, Two years later they were at 14 Camp St and then moved to 11 Oriel St Lower Broughton. His mother lived at 1 Halstead St Cheetham Hill. Private Chadwick is buried at La Clytte Military Cemetery Reninghelst Belgium. Two brothers served.
There is a photo , but I am not "techy" enough to post.

Hi Wendy, I didn`t know about the Camp Street address nor his Mother`s address. Just been out to La Clytte & Regina Trench to pay respects to Robert & James. When you say two brothers served, do you mean in the Royal Scots? James & Joseph both served in the Lancashire Fusilliers and Robert in the Royal Scots. Are you saying that Edward, (about who I know very little,) was also in the Royal Scots? What is the source of all your address information? I live in Norfolk, but am looking to visit Manchester next month, so this information will enhance my visit! Kind regards Shane

Hi Shane The info is from Manchester Scottish by Roger J Dowson. A brief synopsis is given , so it does not state in which regiments the brothers served. I bought my copy from the War Museum at the Lowry Centre.

Hi Shane, We believe that James is remembered on the Ascension Church Memorial, Lower Broughton. linkI have a note that he was also living in Kempster St at this time. There was an obituary published in the Manchester Evening News for Robert on the 26/05/1916. This is most probably where the information published in Manchester Scottish, Manchester contingent of 15th Battalion Royal Scotscame from. If you visit www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/ and register you will receive one free view, use the free view to see this pageI will look for more information on James Thomas when I visit the Salford History Library.
