Simon Dunn born Dublin enlisted Manchester, Sergeant Manchester Regiment 20th Battalion ,Died 27/2/16 CWG ST Sever Cemetery Rouen Age 47 son of Thomas and Mary Dunn of Urmston ,husband of Agatha Mary Dunn of 29 Worsley St Patricroft From Manchester in the great war He was a bootmaker and had lived with his wife Agatha Mary in Worsley Rd for 23 years. He served in the local Volunteers and often took part in shooting competitions in Bisley. He had the Royal Humane Society's certificate for rescuing children who fell in the Bridgewater Canal which was alongside his house. Died 27/2/16 aged 47.

Frank Bernard Allen born Macclesfield enlisted Manchester ,Royal Scots 4th Battalion, Died 28/6/15 CWG Helles Memorial Age 18 son of Albert and Elizabeth Ann Allen of 78 Park St Peel Green From Manchester Scottish Killed in action 28/6/15 aged 18 , during a bayonet charge on Turkish trenches in Gallipoli. Born Macclesfield son of Albert and Elizabeth Ann of 78 Park St, although they were living in Parrin Lane when he enlisted in 1914. He was a choir boy at the church of St Mary Magdalene Winton. He was employed by the Refuge Assurance Co and on their roll of honour also on St Marks War Memorial Worsley.
Robert Baird , born Ayrshire enlisted Manchester, 15th Battalion Royal Scots , Died 12/11/17 M.M CWG Gaza War Cemetery From Manchester Scottish served in A company 15th Royal Scots, but was attached to 1/7th Royal Scots in Palestine. Born Old Cumnock Ayrshire . Before enlisting he was employed as an iron moulder at Britannia Foundry Pendleton.
Allbron Mitchell Barker 2nd Lt 15th Royal Scots , Died 19/7/17 CWG Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery Aged 29 son of Jackson and Mary E Barker of Fair Oak Clarendon Crescent Eccles From Manchester Scottish Enlisted in 15th Royal Scots in 1914 and served with D Company for several months until gaining a commission. He joined the 20th Lancashire Fusiliers 4th Salford Pals as 2nd Lt and as No 11 Platoon commander was involved in recruiting for the Bantams. He was later transferred to 2/5th Lancashire for active duties on the Western Front where he was wounded on 2/7/17 and died at a dressing station on 19/7/17 aged 29 . His parents lived at Fair Oak Clarendon Crescent Eccles, formerly of Todmorden. Before enlisting Lt Barker worked for the London City & Midland Bank Manchester.
Joseph Edward Hewson 2nd Lt East Lancashire Regiment 8th Battalion ,Died 10/7/16 CWG Becourt Military Cemetery From Manchester Scottish 9th Royal Scots later 8th ELR ,killed in action 10/7/16 aged 23. A friend wrote that he was about ten yards from Hewson when he was hit in he stomach by a 77mm shell and died instantly. It was about 9:30 pm. Enlisted 13/11/14 and commissioned 11/3/16. Originally from Middlesbrough ,he lived at 9 Station Rd Patricroft and later at 46 Cromwell Rd, he was engaged to a Miss Wilson. He worked as a shop assistant at the Church St shop of Seymour Mead and later at the head office Manchester.

Fred Pailthorpe born Manchester enlisted Manchester ,Royal Scots , Died 1/7/16 CWG Thiepval Memorial From Manchester Scottish Born in Manchester , his widowed mother lived at 526 Great Cheetham St Higher Broughton . Four of her sons served and by October 1916 she had been told of the death of 2 of them, Fred and another brother in the Cheshire Regiment.
Albert Pole Royal Scots, Died 21/9/18 M.M CWG Queant Rd Cemetery Aged 20 son of Arthur Harry and Martha Pole of 28 Symons St Higher Broughton From Manchester Scottish Was wounded 1st of July and again on 4th August A/Sgt Albert Pole MM and Bar. He attended Waterloo Rd School Salford and enlisted in the 15th Royal Scots in 1014 aged 16. He was wounded 1/7/16 and again on 4/8/16, he then came home on convalescent leave. At that time his parents were living at 20 Moreton St Strangeways by 1918 they were at 7 Hamilton St Higher Broughton.
William Sheard born Manchester enlisted Manchester Royal Scots , Died 17/7/16 Home CWG Kersal St Paul Churchyard Age 30 son of Thomas Sheard of 1 Granville Avenue Leicester Rd Higher Broughton, husband of the late Mary Sheard From Manchester Scottish He was wounded on 1st of July and died at Hollywood Park Military Hospital Stockport aged 30. He was the son of Thomas a schoolmaster of Granville Avenue Higher Broughton.
