My great uncle Thomas Dobson was a schoolmaster in Pendleton, Salford (1911 census - 37 Graham St - with wife and 1 yr old daughter, both called Clara Eleanor) The family moved to The Schoolhouse, Shenton, Leicestershire sometime before he enlisted. He died of Wounds Dec 1917 and is buried at Tincourt. I wonder whether anyone knows about Salford schools in 1911, where he might have taught etc? And is Graham St still there? Any information would be welcome thanks.

Welcome to the forums Sue. Your Great Uncle's name is on the Salford Corporation memorial. Follow this link for more information. Thanks to the information left by Mack on that thread we know that he worked at Langworthy Rd Council School (demolished in 2010). Langworthy Road Council The school is still showing on Google maps here.I see that he lived at Graham Road, Pendleton, which still exists. Here is a picture of the house he lived in (zoom in and you will find number 37). Here is a map of the local area.

Could that have been his brother John Maurice Dobson who later became a school teacher too?

Ben, Can you confirm that the entry states Graham Street and not Graham Road? As I have him at Graham Road. I hope I have given the right place in my links? Attachments:

Hi Gary i have amended my post above and now can confirm that senile dementia has started to set in here I haven't a clue where i came up with the 1913 details? I have gone back over every and could not find it again. Think i might now not be aloud out unless accompanied by an adult Here is what i can prove & get right ;D Here are entries in other directories, even though i give the directory year, the directories were compiled up to 18 months earlier. The 1909 directory. The 1911 directory. And finally the 1913 directory Ben

Ben, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm always confusing roads and streets and continually having to correct myself. I think certain names sometimes flow better. Sent from my Sony Ericsson LT15i Xperia Arc using the ProBoards Android App.

Well said Hawker.
If I had a pound for all my clangers I think my mortgage would be paid.
