hiya gary. i didnt want to interupt the civic reception thread with this.
sgt 6386 thomas horford who was one of the military medalists,he would have been quite poorly when he attended the function,he had contracted pulminary TB whilst a POW,he was a patient at ladywell sanatorium on eccles new rd at the time,he passed away on 12th january 1923,aged 34,he was captured on 23-3-1918 at st.quentin while serving in A.coy of the 16th manchesters,he was a POW at limberg,he lived with his sister mrs louise conway at 35 frederick st,salford. in 1919 he was living at 14 pear st,salford,he married miss sarah sumner the following year. his MM was for gallant+distinguished conduct on 23rd april 1917,published in the LG on 9-12-17
sgt horford isnt entitled to CWGC recognition because he died after the cut off date,his death was due to his confinement as a POW

Any more information about the men can be posted here and I will move it to the end of the index card thread when I have finished posting them (there are around 340 cards, all have to be cropped, watermarked, reduced in file size, uploaded to photobucket and then linked on the forum).

L/cpl 8046 sydney ackerley didnt attend the function,he was killed in action during the german march offensive on 22-3-1918,with the 17th manchesters,he was 22yrs old son of alfred+clementina,17 regent square,salford

RSM 9369 henry coates was awarded the MC for his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the attack on cherisy on 24th april 1917,he showed fine leadership while in command of a company,although under heavy shell and MG fire,he posted his men at all the vantage points,after repulsing two german counter attacks,the battalion withdrew during the night,RSM coates was presented with his MC by the king in august 1917,L/cpl 8046 sydney ackerley won the MM in the same action.
RSM coates served 16yrs with the 2nd royal welsh fusiliers,he was present at the occupation of crete between 31-7-1897-2-8-1898,he was also present at the relief of peking in 1900[awarded china medal in silver] he died at salford in 1924 age 44yrs
he was a police sergeant with salford police,he enlisted in 17th manchesters on 17th february 1915 and appointed RSM the same day,he was commissioned 2/Lt in the 3rd garrison battalion of his old regiment[RWF] on 27-11-17

sgt 6442 albert walker 16th manchesters A.coy 56 my st,eccles new rd,salford died of wounds on 8-4-1918 aged 22 parents edward+elizabeth,ann walker worked at tootal,broadhurst MM gazetted 13-3-18 for his actions at gheluvelt
lost his two brothers 2/Lt james,edward walker 1st KORL died 3-5-17 aged 23
pte 3150 harold walker 1/7th lancs fusiliers,attatched to 8th KORL died between 16th and 18th august 1916 aged 18
