"the Memorial was on Whit Lane where Owen Street meets it, there was a off-License on the corner, the left of that, a Butchers, then left of that, a Greengrocers, then Mrs. Buckley's house, The shop on the left of the Memorial, was a hat shop." *this info was supplied by Elaine's Auntie

Thanks Garry, very interesting. I read the Whitsters Lane book ages ago. I have decided to buy it for my 'Whit Lane Aunt ' who unfortunately is very ill now... She will love to read it..

Hi Tobytyler,
I lived on Holland Street from 1948 onwards
I am sure the Memorial will be found.. The SWARM team will leave no stone unturned

Peter,
This memorial was one of the reasons why SWARM was formed. As the thread suggests, we do not have a clue where the memorial went.
I am sure that SWARM co-founder "Spitfire" will introduce herself later, her g grandfather and your g uncle may have known each other.

Hi Peter, Welcome to SWARM. As Garry says, this memorial was one of the reasons SWARM started as I was desperate to locate the memorial which has my great grandad's name on it. I have briefly introduced myself to you on the new members thread which you started and it seems our families didn't live far from each other on Whit Lane - your Brookes at 250 and my Harrisons at 206. There is a small newspaper cutting about the memorial and the ladies who arranged it all here on this thread (at the bottom of page 3) SWARM started in September/October 2010 and so far we have had no leads on what happened to the Whit Lane memorial but we will keep our ears open, memorials do keep turning up

The school photograph on the first page of this thread looks to me to be St Georges C of E primary School, on Whit lane.
