Hi Shred, This is a non-military question. I have been trying for ages to contact by e-mail Rainsough and post, but cannot get a reply. Do you know how who I can write to as I am trying to get details of an inscritpion on a Jewish gravestone. Thanks for your help. Steve

Hi Steve,
Is the inscription from one of the graves at this cemetery? What specifically are you looking for?
Regards,
Garry

Hi Gary, I have a Lazarus Goldstein who died in 1946 Manchester and buried in Rainsough Cemetery. I don't have any ref. numbers. Need the inscription to see if he is one of mine (should be) and wife was a Leah. Can't get to Rainsough myself as I don't live in the UK. Grateful for any cemetery contact info.

When I visited the cemetery on a Sunday the cemetery building/synagogue was locked shut. You could try emailing the Langley Road Jewish Cemetery (just down the road) to see if you get a response from them. Failing that I would contact the Manchester Jewish Museum at the following link www.manchesterjewishmuseum.com/researchI will make a note of the names and look out for Lazerus' grave but due to the size of the cemetery and the condition of some of the headstones I wouldn't be confident of locating the grave. Hope that helps. Garry

Steve, I see that you have posted on another site with regards to Lazarus and Leah. In that post you suggest that the synagogue had said that would pass on the inscription details. I presume that they have not replied to your request for this information? If so, email them again and ask for a grave reference and I will get the inscription. As you can see from the attached picture I would need at least ten people to find the grave. Attachments:

Gary, I am very grateful for the info you have provided. Jewish Museum -several e-mails, no response. Synagogue - never replied - several follow-up e-mails, no response. Will contact Langley as you suggested. Please don't go trailing around the cemetery, its far too big an operation. Should be in the UK in September so I'll pick up the trail then. Thank you once again for your time and effort. Sending a PM later on.

Just to let you know, thanks to your previous info I have found the name and e-mail address of the Sexton at Rainsough Cemetery, so have written to see if he can look at the registers or whatever.
Cheers, Steve

Steve,
Bad news I am afraid. I had a little trouble locating the grave so waited to have a word with whoever would be calling to close the cemetery at 17.30. The gentleman who arrived to close the cemetery was the Sexton (I have his card if you would like any additional information). He led me directly to the grave of Lazarus Goldstein only to find that there wasn't a headstone. I have taken a picture of the area and will email this to you.
Sorry that I am the bearer of bad news.

Hi, Thanks very much for your time and effort. Seen the photos and seems they could'nt be bothered to put a stone up.
Sorry you had a wasted journey and working all week as well.
Grateful, Steve
