Ernest Royle L/Corporal Manchester Reg He was woundedi the right knee in France, and was sent to a hospital in Birmingham , this was the second time he had been wounded.Before the war Ernest worked on the staff of CWS soap works.
George Shaw George E Shaw Manchester Regiment In May 1917 he was in hospital in Stockport with wounds to the leg, arm and head. He lived with his married brother Walter on Liverpool Rd Irlam and worked in the Candle Department of CWS soap works

CWS Irlam
Fred Unsworth Sergeant 19285 Manchester Regiment MM He was awarded MM for action on 20th December. His company were stationed near Beaumont Hamel, when the Germans started a heavy bombardment wuth long range guns. Fred released a number of horses that were trapped in a stable. At the time there were npo commissioned officers nearby, and he acted on his own initiative,soon after the stable was destroyed by the German shells. He was the first man from Cadishead to be awarded the Military Medal. Fred worked in the Crude Glycerinew Department of CWS soap works.
William Valentine Machine Gun Corp Was in hospital recovering from wounds when his younger brother Robert was killed on 10/4/18. His parents lived at 30 Prospect Rd Cadishead, he had worked for CWS soap works

He re-enlisted into Lancashire Fusiliers aged 35 in Manchester on 27/10/15. He disembarked to France on 9/5/16 . As a result of wounds received his leg was amputated at the thigh. He had worked as a labourer at CWS soap works
