I'd be pretty surprised if that's not been kept - the Co-Op are pretty fastidious about such things when disposing of former Co-Op property. Might be worthwhile also checking with their archive, as they may have other Salford related memorials from the various branches of the Co-Operative movement. Contact details at their website www.co-op.ac.uk/our-heritage/national-co-operative-archive/. [EDIT: Haven't used their archive personally, but heard good things from researchers, and their reputation 'in the industry'.]

I remember that now you mention it. The MEN made biggest fuss as I recall.

Let's hope that the MEN will make a big fuss of the potential fate of the Salford Central Mission Memorial

Hi, unfortunately the Irlam CWS Soap Works roll of honour was destroyed by fire in the 1960's because it was made of wood and was rotting (photo shown earlier).
I have a full transcript of the names on it. In addition, I took the photo of the CWS Memorial at Balloon Street in Manchester. I have more photos of it but the main detail I photographed was the Irlam soap works (photos attached). I can confirm that it is a beautiful memorial.
Unfortunately I've not worked out how to add pictures. I'll send them to bomber for posting.
Cheers Pete

Pete,
The first picture in this thread is CWS Soap Works, the second Balloon St? Correct?
And if so why do we have a list that refers to two CWS memorials?
Sorry for my confusion.

ust checked my Info and it is the CWS Roll of Honour Don't know about the Frames on But there is a pretty huge one up there attached, need to make some enquiries me thinks Hi Shred, the photo and post just before my first post shows the Balloon St memorial. This is currently behind locked doors at the CWS head office but I believe they are trying to refurbish the building and re-open it. Balloon St contains the CWS memorial for all its factories (including Irlam Soap Works and also other Salford CWS works). The first image on this post shows the actual roll of honour for the Irlam CWS Soap Works which was destroyed in the 1960's. They both include the name of my great grandmother's brother, Charles Roberts, who was killed in May 1918 in France and also his brother-in-Law, Arthur Clark, killed in August 1915 at Gallipoli. Cheers Pete

Hi Shred, I just noticed the significance of your first post. I don't know for certain but I believe that the two entries refer to the same roll of honour. I've not been able to find any reference to a second roll of honour apart from the war memorial list that you've found on the web.
Cheers Pete
