Part of Liverpool Brigade, West Lancashire Division. 1st Battalion August 1914 : in Ahmednagar, India. Attached to 17th Indian Brigade of 6th (Poona) Division, Indian Army. 27 November 1914 : moved to Mesopotamia. 29 April 1916 : Bn captured after surrender of garrison at Kut-el-Amara. A Provisional Bn was formed from the reinforcements and details who were not captured, which was attached to 28th Indian Brigade, 6th Poona Division. This Provisional Bn was renamed 1st Bn on 6 July 1916. 19 October 1917 : transferred to 50th Indian Brigade in 15th Indian Division. Remained in Mesopotamia throughout the war.
5th (Service) Battalion Formed at Oxford in August 1914 as part of K1 and placed under orders of 42nd Brigade in 14th (Light) Division. 21 May 1915 : landed at Boulogne. 27 April 1918 : reduced to cadre strength. 16 June 1918 : transferred to 16th Division.and returned to England. 20 June 1918 : absorbed by 18th Bn, the Gloucestershire Regiment.

Initially established at Heaton Park but moved in April 1915 to Belton Park, where placed under command of 90th Brigade in 30th Division. Moved on to Larkhill in September 1915. 6 November 1915 : landed in France. 13 May 1918 : reduced to cadre strength. 18 June 1918 : moved to Boulogne and transferred to 42nd Brigade in 14th (Light) Division. Returned to England and moved to Cowshott. a couple of men on this roll of honour are related. amos davies who was killed in action was related to the lobb brothers,he married their sister martha,druscilla lobb[nessie] at this chapel on 2-3-1912,they had a daughter elizabeth born on 1-9-15. amos is also related to another man on this roll,ernest poirette,he was married to amos sister clara davies in 1916. ernest poirette was the son of aldebert+sarah ann poirette of "lyndale"devonshire rd,pendleton self employed cotton merchant aged 30yrs old in 1914 resided 65 snowdon rd,eccles 3 children yvonne/arnold/desiree died in cheshire 1946 aged 61 living at tree tops,west rd,bowden at the time of his death
the j.h dow on the roll,is cpl 17338 james,fildes,mcgregor dow 20th manchesters B.coy enl 17-11-14 aged 26 clerk in the cotton trade MID 3-7-16 for gallantry we have a platoon photo on our forum,james is in the B.coy,V platoon picture,hes in the 2nd row from the front,1st right

Tony,
We are trying to arrange another visit to photograph this memorial as:
Visit 1 - The BBC attended to film the visit, and whilst their lights made the lighting conditions beneficial for photographing the memorial, only a limited time was made available for Spitfire to take the pictures. Visit 2 - Poor lighting conditions in the cellar resulted in very poor picture quality.
We are hoping that the museum will facilitate a third visit and that the memorial can be brought up from the cellar for photographing.

The 12th King's were part of the 61st Brigade, 20th (Light) Division and on 3/9/16 they were supporting the 47th Brigade, 16th (Irish) Division during the Battle of Guillemont.
The 20th Division History states: The 12th King's moving forward under severe shell fire, had entered the northern part of Trones Wood.
The Battle for the Transloy Ridges began on the 7th October 1916, the fighting beginning at 1.45 p.m. The 12th King's to the fore made progress of about 500 yards and into the western section of Rainbow Trench 7/10/1916 frank was wounded during this battle
