We have just received an email that the Central Mission Memorial is in danger of being lost when the building is demolished to make way for the new Media School (Oasis Acadamy/Hope High).
The gentleman who has made contact wrote:
We MUST stop this from happening.
I will post a picture of the memorial shortly.

This is one of the reasons we started SWARM. We didn't realise just how quickly we would have to spring into rescue mode.
Please tell people about SWARM, the more people we have supporting the cause the better.
We now need to co-ordinate the rescue mission.

WE must not allow this to happen, and this is just one of the reasons SWARM was set up, please please support us

That is certainly a fitting and beautiful memorial and it would be a crime (against decency at the very least) for it to be allowed to be destroyed. I'm sure it could be safely removed and relocated to a safe home. Surely it could be incorporated into the new building on the same site, as part of the site's heritage and history. Can the Imperial War Museum or Salford City Council's Museum not help or advise on safe removal and conservation?

We will be looking at all options available Malcolm, and if anyone comes up with any more ideas, please let us know, WE really do need to SAVE this one, and any others that come to light !!!

hiya garry this memorial should be easy enough to remove without damaging it,it appears to be made of marble and fixed to a painted brick wall, that means there are no hidden fixings, the fixings should be located in the inner part, above+below the names

Hi Gary, I agree with Mack definitely Marble. I would say it is attached to the wall in several pieces , I recently removed some large Alabaster panels from an old theater in Portsmouth. These were held on using thick copper wire set into the stone and at right angles into the wall maybe something similar with yours . I also know an old stone mason down here who has worked on war memorials, I could show him the picture if you need some specialist advice. Mike

Mack and Mike,
Thanks very much for your input. My first thought was marble and glad you both agree.
Mike,
Would love to hear what the stone mason has to say.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Garry
